SeaClean® — kill the soot. Keep the clean hull.
The patented marine diesel particulate filter that captures up to 98% of generator soot and unburned hydrocarbons. The only DPF on the market with variable pre-heater technology for true active regeneration across the full generator load range.
A real solution to generator soot — engineered for yachts
All diesel engines produce soot as a product of combustion. A 99 kW generator installed on a yacht before 2012 is permitted to produce over 700 grams (more than 1.5 pounds) of particulate matter per day. Many of those nanoparticles embed themselves in microscopic pores in even the highest-quality hull finish — leading to staining and damage from constant cleaning.
SeaClean captures up to 98% of the soot and other particulates in the exhaust flow. Trapped particles, unburned fuel, and lubricating oil are reduced to carbon dioxide and water vapor.
Unlike passive DPFs that depend on high generator loads to create temperatures hot enough to initiate regeneration, SeaClean uses excess generator capacity to electrically heat exhaust gas before it enters the filter — delivering exhaust at the correct temperature to initiate regeneration across the full load range.
- Only marine DPF with variable pre-heater technology
- Maintains constant exhaust gas temps for regeneration
- Only system with on-site engineering, eval & install
- Modular — upgrade existing or fit inside sound shield
- Class-approved with all major societies (~30 installs)
- Acts as load bank at low generator loads
- Manual regen mode at any time
- High-backpressure alarm integration

Smoke on the water — what marketing claims hide
"99% reduction"
Real-world filter performance lands between 90–98%. True 99% without high back-pressure requires a very large, heavy, and expensive filter.
"No heat generation"
Inaccurate. Regeneration generates additional heat — combustion of captured particulates raises filter and exhaust temperature above the inlet.
Passive vs Active
Passive regen depends on hot enough exhaust — only achievable at high loads for long enough. SeaClean's active variable pre-heater removes that constraint.
On-record testimonials from SeaClean owners
"Once again I find myself truly appreciating the work of DeAngelo Marine Exhaust. Pairing their fabrication and installation with the SeaClean System gives you a solid performer that really outshines any other work I've come across. Full credit to DeAngelo — never once did they say 'no, it can't be done.'"
"I am the bringer of good news today. Our owner could not stop raving about the good job done. He asked whether I had routed the generator exhaust from the transom because he could hear the genny running but see no telltale slick. It is a huge leap forward — bust the 2000-hour milestone with no back-pressure problems in sight."
"I've struggled with poor exhaust system design and emissions throughout my career. The SeaClean system has been in operation for months and all the smoke, soot, and waterborne slicks are gone. Your crew thinks clean exhaust emissions are normal — and very honestly they should be."
"The exhaust gas is extremely clean and nearly odorless. The topsides remain free of soot, saving the crew countless hours of cleaning."
SeaClean — the technical detail
Is the SeaClean system approved by class?
SeaClean is a customized solution for the elimination of generator exhaust pollution. Each installation is unique to the yacht on which it is fitted. Design drawings, schematics and specifications are submitted to Class for approval; after fabrication, installation and commissioning, a Class surveyor inspects and approves. We have successfully completed this process on close to 30 installations to date with cooperation from all major classification societies.
What back-pressure should we expect?
We typically develop back-pressure in the mid-teens of water column — just under 4 kPa at 60–80% loads. This depends on the rest of the exhaust system; ideal results come when we can design and fabricate the entire system from turbo outlet to overboard.
Can the system be installed in Europe?
Yes. We send a technician to perform or oversee the fitting in whatever location the boat is in. This can save costs compared to local labor, and we also send a technician to commission and fine-tune the system after installation.
Can the system be modular if we have tight engine-room space?
The system is modular by design. Control panels are built to fit your desired size and location; most installations fit within the envelope of the generator sound shield with the water-lift separator fit between shield and hull.
How much power does the heater consume?
Power consumption varies with generator output and exhaust temperature. We typically install a 20 kW heater on a 170 kW generator. A zero-crossing power controller modulates power cycle by cycle to avoid noise spikes and harmonics; heaters are isolated unless the generator has been running for at least a minute to allow the power management system to stabilize.
Can the heater be staged or soft-started?
Power is regulated proportionally to the temperature of exhaust gases leaving the turbocharger. There's a ramp-up at startup, and when hotel loads are at maximum the heater uses no power so all power is available to the switchboard.
Is the heater a single or multi-element design?
The heater is a single unit comprised of multiple hairpin elements. Wattage is sized to the exhaust temperature required.
Does it have manual regeneration and alarm integration?
Manual operation is available at the front of the control panel any time the system is online. Normal automatic operation provides constant and continuous regeneration across the widest possible generator load range. A high-backpressure alarm output is available for integration with the yacht's alarm and monitoring system.
Can the system act as a load bank?
Yes — by using the manual control feature, the full capacity of the heater is available as an exhaust-cooled load bank. If greater capacity is required, we can install larger heaters in the same envelope so there's no space or size penalty.
